Another milestone created in the journey of The Kurabesi Explore. In the 2018 Asia Dive Expo (ADEX) event in Singapore on April 6-8 2018, she won the BlueGreen360 Awards for the Liveaboard of the Year category.

The awards celebrates businesses and individuals in the ocean tourism industry which have proven their dedication to sustainable tourism within the communities they operate. It goes to liveaboards, resorts, dive operations, and personality in the Asia Pacific region who has been selected by respectable judge; Chairman of Board Directors of the Global Sustainable Tourism of the UNWTO Luigi Cabrini, Executive Director Coral Triangle Center Rili Djohani, Program Manager Reef World Foundation Chloe Harvey, and Gabriel Grimsditch, Programe Management Officer of UNEP.
Together with the other winners, Kurabesi Explorer has been proved in practicing standards of sustainable tourism and adapted to focus on marine and coastal environments.
Kurabesi’s business practices is always abide regulation on environmental laws, adhere the conservation rules in protected areas and ensure complience in every single regulation related on boat operation.
Since it was created, Kurabesi also has been actively engage with communities and direct link with local foundation, Bentara Papua, to create more benefit for the local. Company also work with community leaders in promoting marine conservation projects in the area of operation, including provide opportunity for locals to economically participate in sustainable marine tourism through employment.
In daily bassis, a simple eco solutions applied to reduce plastic waste on board. Since Kurabesi not providing water in plastic bottle, every guest will have their own water tumbler that can be refilled anytime in the drinking station. No plastic cutlery being used in the boat, also plastic straws that has been replace with bamboo straws.
As a real contribution, Kurabesi Explorer also supports environmental conservation activities conducted by NGOs in several of marine protected areas, especially in eastern part of Indonesia. Conservation International, The Nature Conservancy as well as World Wild Fund (WWF) are some of those who have work with.
This year, Kurabesi Explorer will release new initiave of citizen scientists in Introduction to Coral Check. Collaborate with marine scientist, Kurabesi is creating new and fun way for guest to give broaden knowledge concerning the ocean health.
As Mahatma Gandhi once said, if you want to change the world, start from yourself. Here we start with small step and now be humbled with this appreciation.
